The Sun Hydraulics RPGSKCN (RPGSKCN) is a pilot-operated, balanced poppet relief cartridge designed to serve as a pressure regulating valve. This normally closed valve opens to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches a predefined setting, effectively throttling flow to maintain consistent pressure levels. Known for its accuracy, smooth operation, and rapid response time of approximately 7 milliseconds, the RPGSKCN is engineered to handle maximum pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It features a robust design that minimizes issues related to cavitation such as noise and manifold erosion. The valve's construction includes a main stage orifice safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, making it resilient against oil temperature fluctuations and contamination. Its versatility allows it to be used in cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications. Additionally, back pressure on the tank port directly influences the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges with EPDM seals are recommended; exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. The RPGSKCN can be customized with corrosion-resistant options identified by suffixes AP for stainless steel components or LH for zinc-nickel plating, making it suitable for use in corrosive environments. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal binding due to excessive torque or machining variations during installation. With a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and minimal leakage at reseat levels of 10 drops/min (0.7 cc/min), this cartridge is both efficient and reliable. Installation requires specific torques for various components including the valve hex size of 1-1/8 inches (28.6 mm) and locknut torque between 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm).

Pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, smooth, quiet, fast, and have low pressure rise vs. flow.

  • Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
  • Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Suitable for use in load holding applications.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
  • Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
