The Sun Hydraulics RPIC8DN (RPIC8DN) is a versatile, normally closed modulating valve element designed with an integral pilot control cavity. This valve features a balanced piston design and is engineered to accept any T8A pressure control cartridge, allowing for precise modulation of flow between the inlet port 1 and tank port 2. When the inlet pressure reaches the pilot control cartridge's setting, the valve begins to open, regulating pressure by throttling flow to the tank port. The pressure differential between ports 1 and 2 is determined by the pilot cartridge's setting. Notably, all 2-port relief cartridges in this series are interchangeable in terms of flow path and cavity compatibility for a given frame size. The RPIC8DN can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, it is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. Additionally, back pressure on port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The \"8\" control option allows integration of a pilot control valve directly into the relief cartridge using the T8A cavity; these cartridges are sold separately. This model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks caused by excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge interfaces. It supports up to 100 gpm (380 L/min) capacity and operates at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Installation requires specific torque values: main stage at 150-160 lbf ft (203-217 Nm) and pilot control as per requirements. With its robust design and adaptability, this valve can be effectively utilized in various hydraulic circuits requiring precise pressure regulation without compromising on performance stability or reliability.

This valve is a normally closed modulating element that incorporates an integral pilot control cavity. It is a balanced piston design. The pilot control cavity will accept any T-8A pressure control cartridge. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the pilot control cartridge's setting, the modulating element starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. The pilot cartridge's setting determines the difference in pressure between port 1 and port 2.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- NOTE: With the -8 control option, the main stage valve should first be installed to the correct torque value. The T-8A pilot control valve should then be installed into the main stage valve to its required torque value.
- The -8 control option allows the pilot control valve to be incorporated directly into the end of the relief cartridge via the T-8A cavity. These pilot control cartridges are sold separately and include electro-proportional, solenoid, air pilot, and hydraulic pilot operation. See Pilot Control Cartridges.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
