The Sun Hydraulics RPIDBBN (RPIDBBN) is an air-controlled, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for precise pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This valve utilizes compressed air over a diaphragm to control the pressure setting, replacing the traditional adjustable spring mechanism. The air signal is introduced through a port located at the hex end of the cartridge. Operating as a normally closed pressure regulating valve, it begins to open to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 reaches the set pressure, effectively throttling flow to maintain desired pressure levels. Known for its accuracy and smooth operation, this valve exhibits low pressure rise versus flow and operates quietly with moderate speed. The RPIDBBN model is capable of accepting maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits. It ensures reliable performance with a maximum operating pressure of 2000 psi (140 bar) and accommodates up to 150 psi (10 bar) of air pressure. All two-port relief cartridges from Sun Hydraulics are interchangeable within the same frame size, offering consistent flow paths and cavity compatibility. This model features Sun's floating style construction, which minimizes internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge connections. With a cavity size of T-16A Series 3 and a capacity of 100 gpm (380 L/min), it offers a pilot ratio of 20:1 and typical response time of 10 ms. The valve has minimal leakage at maximum operating conditions and requires an installation torque between 150-160 lbf ft (203-217 Nm). Weighing in at 1.20 lb (0.55 kg), this cartridge comes with Viton seal kits available for maintenance needs.

Air-controlled, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges use compressed air over a diaphragm instead of an adjustable spring to control pressure setting. The air signal is supplied through a port in the hex-end of the cartridge. They are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Maximum air pressure should not exceed 150 psi (10 bar).
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
