The Sun Hydraulics RPIELBN (RPIELBN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for hydraulic systems. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve is engineered to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients by opening rapidly when the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting, directing flow to the tank port to limit pressure rise. It features a low pressure rise versus flow and offers exceptionally quick response times. Designed with a 150-micron stainless steel screen to protect the main stage orifice, this cartridge is not suitable for load holding applications due to spool leakage. It can handle maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi and allows back pressure on the tank port to be directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The Sun floating style construction minimizes internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The RPIELBN is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges except for pilot reliefs, making it versatile for various applications such as cross-port relief circuits, though spool leakage should be considered in such uses. This model has a cavity size of T-16A, series 3, and can handle capacities up to 100 gpm (380 L/min). It requires an installation torque of 150-160 lbf ft and includes adjustments like a number of clockwise turns for setting increases and specific hex sizes for adjustment screws and locknuts. The cartridge weighs approximately 1.20 lb (0.55 kg) and comes with a Viton seal kit option (990016006).

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
