The Sun Hydraulics RPIELDV (RPIELDV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. These normally closed, pressure-limiting valves open swiftly at the expense of smoothness, starting to open to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 reaches the valve setting. This throttles flow to limit pressure rise and features low pressure rise versus flow characteristics. The RPIELDV is interchangeable with all 2-port relief cartridges, except pilot reliefs, sharing the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. It can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits, although spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. This model is not recommended for load-holding applications due to spool leakage. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. It uses Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal parts binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge setups. The RPIELDV fits into a T-16A cavity and belongs to Series 3 with a capacity of up to 100 gpm (380 L/min). The factory pressure settings are established at 4 gpm (15 L/min), with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and typical response time of around 2 ms.
