The Sun Hydraulics RPIEMBV (RPIEMBV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This valve is normally closed and functions as a pressure-limiting device by opening to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 reaches the valve setting, thereby throttling flow to limit pressure rise. Known for its rapid response, this valve offers low pressure rise versus flow but prioritizes speed over smoothness. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to mitigate internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The RPIEMBV can handle maximum pressures at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits, though spool leakage should be considered in such applications. Notably, it is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential leakage issues. The valve's back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. It fits into cavity T-16A with a series 3 capacity of 100 gpm (380 L/min) and can operate at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The typical response time is around 2 ms with maximum leakage of 4 in\u00b3/min at 110 SUS (24 cSt) and 1000 psi (70 bar). Adjustment involves up to five clockwise turns, with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments provided. Weighing approximately 1.20 lb (0.55 kg), this cartridge also has an available Viton seal kit under part number 990016006.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
