The Sun Hydraulics RPIEMDN (RPIEMDN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. These normally closed, pressure-limiting valves open quickly to limit pressure rise by throttling flow to the tank port when the inlet port reaches the valve setting. They are characterized by a low pressure rise versus flow and rapid response time, making them suitable for applications requiring quick actuation. However, this comes at the expense of smoothness in operation. The valve is physically and functionally interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, accepting maximum pressure at port 2 and suitable for cross-port relief circuits with consideration of spool leakage. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen but is not suitable for load-holding applications due to spool leakage. Backpressure on the tank port directly affects the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
