The Sun Hydraulics RPIEMEV (RPIEMEV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve quickly opens and closes, offering rapid response at the expense of smoothness. When the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting, it begins to open to the tank port, throttling flow to limit pressure rise. It features a low pressure rise versus flow and is highly responsive with a typical response time of 2 milliseconds. The valve is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size and flow path. This model can handle maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of 100 gpm (380 L/min). It incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, although it is not suitable for load holding applications due to spool leakage. It accepts maximum pressure at port 2 and can be used in cross-port relief circuits with consideration for spool leakage. For installation, the valve hex size is 1 1/4 inches (31.8 mm), requiring a torque of 150-160 lbf ft (203-217 Nm). Adjustment can be made via an internal hex screw with up to five clockwise turns needed to increase settings. A locknut secures adjustments with a torque specification of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). The valve's seal kit uses Viton material for durability under various conditions.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
