The Sun Hydraulics RPIEMNN (RPIEMNN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for protecting hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly when the inlet port 1 reaches the preset pressure, directing flow to tank port 2 to manage pressure rise. It features low pressure rise versus flow and operates with remarkable speed. All two-port relief cartridges, except pilot reliefs, are interchangeable with the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. The valve can handle maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, although it is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential leakage. Backpressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The Sun floating style construction reduces the risk of internal parts binding due to installation torque or machining variations of cavity/cartridge. The cartridge fits Cavity T-16A Series 3 and has a capacity of up to 100 gpm (380 L/min). It operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with typical response times around 2 ms. Maximum leakage is rated at 4 in\u00b3/min (65 cc/min) at 1000 psi (70 bar). Adjustment involves up to five turns clockwise to increase settings, with specific hex sizes for valve and adjustment screw provided for precise installation and adjustments. Weighing approximately 1.20 lb (0.55 kg), it comes with Viton seal kit number 990-016-006 for maintenance or replacement needs.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
