The Sun Hydraulics RPKCKWN (RPKCKWN) is a pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed as a normally closed pressure regulating valve. This component is engineered to open at the tank port when the inlet port pressure reaches the preset level, thereby throttling flow to maintain regulated pressure. Known for its accuracy, low pressure rise versus flow, smooth and quiet operation, and moderate speed, it is suitable for applications requiring maximum pressure acceptance at port 2, such as cross-port relief circuits. However, users should consider spool leakage in these scenarios. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. It should be noted that this valve is not suitable for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. This cartridge features a backpressure on tank port 2 that directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. All two-port relief cartridges are interchangeable in terms of flow path and cavity size within a given frame size. Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are appropriate for systems using phosphate ester fluids but can be damaged by petroleum-based fluids. The RPKCKWN model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The valve has a cavity T-18A series 4 capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min) and operates under a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). Its typical response time is around 10 ms, with maximum valve leakage at specified conditions being approximately 5 in\u00b3/min (80 cc/min). Adjustment requires up to five clockwise turns to increase settings, and the installation torque ranges from 350 to 375 lbf ft (474 to 508 Nm). The model weighs approximately 2.50 lb (1.15 kg) and comes with a Viton seal kit option (990018006).

Pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
- Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
