The Sun Hydraulics RPKCYNN (RPKCYNN) is a pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge valve designed for pressure regulation applications. This normally closed valve opens to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the set threshold, effectively throttling flow to maintain desired pressure levels. It is known for its accuracy, low pressure rise versus flow characteristics, smooth and quiet operation, and moderate response speed. The valve can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min). It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is not recommended for load-holding applications due to spool leakage. The design allows it to accept maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, users should consider potential spool leakage in such configurations. Additionally, back pressure on port 2 directly affects the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The RPKCYNN model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce the risk of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge interfaces. Pilot-operated, balanced-piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
