The Sun Hydraulics RPKECCN (RPKECCN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly when the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting, relieving excess pressure by throttling flow to the tank port. It features a low-pressure rise versus flow and provides quick response times at approximately 2 milliseconds. The valve can handle a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min). Constructed with Sun's floating style design, it minimizes internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The RPKECCN is suitable for cross-port relief circuits but not for load-holding applications due to spool leakage. It incorporates a 150-micron stainless steel screen protecting the main stage orifice and allows back pressure on the tank port to be additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The valve's physical dimensions include a hex size of 1 5/8 inches (41.3 mm) and an installation torque range of 350\u2013375 lbf ft (474\u2013508 Nm). Adjustments are made using an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), with five clockwise turns increasing the setting. This cartridge weighs approximately 2.50 lb (1.15 kg) and utilizes Viton seals with an available seal kit under part number 990018006.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
