The Sun Hydraulics RPKECDV (RPKECDV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens quickly when the inlet port pressure reaches its setting, diverting flow to the tank port to limit pressure rise. It boasts a low pressure rise versus flow and operates with remarkable speed, though this comes at the expense of smoothness. The RPKECDV is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size and flow path. It can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, though it is not ideal for load-holding applications due to potential leakage. The valve's design includes Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal component binding from installation or machining variations. Key specifications include a cavity size of T-18A Series 4, a capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min), and a factory pressure setting established at 4 gpm (15 L/min). It can withstand a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with typical response times around 2 ms. Maximum valve leakage is rated at 5 in\u00b3/min (80 cc/min) under specific conditions. Adjustments are made via an internal hex screw, with detailed torque settings provided for both the valve and locknut installations. Weighing in at approximately 2.50 lb (1.15 kg), this cartridge also features Viton seals for durability and compatibility in various applications.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
