The Sun Hydraulics RPKECEN (RPKECEN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly when the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting, directing flow to the tank port to limit pressure rise. Its design ensures low pressure rise versus flow and quick response times, typically around 2 milliseconds. The RPKECEN is suitable for cross-port relief circuits due to its ability to accept maximum pressure at port 2; however, users should consider spool leakage in such applications. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, although it is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential leakage. This relief cartridge features Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding risks from excessive installation torque or machining variations. It fits into a T-18A cavity with a Series 4 capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min) and can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The valve's leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is minimal at 5 in\u00b3/min (80 cc/min) under 1000 psi (70 bar). Adjustments are made through an internal hex screw with five clockwise turns required to increase settings. Installation requires a torque of 350-375 lbf\u00b7ft (474-508 Nm), and the unit weighs approximately 2.50 lb (1.15 kg). A Viton seal kit is available for maintenance needs.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
