The Sun Hydraulics RPKECNN (Material Number: RPKECNN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. These normally closed, pressure-limiting valves open quickly when the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting, directing flow to the tank port to limit pressure rise. With low pressure rise versus flow and rapid response times, these valves are ideally suited for applications requiring quick opening and closing. The RPKECNN model can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and offers a typical response time of 2 milliseconds. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. This model is not suitable for load-holding applications due to spool leakage and should be considered carefully in cross-port relief circuits as backpressure on the tank port directly affects the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The valve accepts maximum pressure at port 2 and is functionally interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges of the same frame size. Installation requires a torque of 350 - 375 lbf ft (474 - 508 Nm), with adjustments made via an internal hex screw. Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
