The Sun Hydraulics RPKEKBN (RPKEKBN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for protecting hydraulic components from pressure transients. These normally closed, pressure-limiting valves are engineered to open quickly when the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting, directing flow to tank port 2 to limit further pressure rise. Although they prioritize speed over smoothness in operation, these valves feature a low pressure rise versus flow and are extremely fast in response. They are interchangeable with all 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, except for pilot reliefs, and can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making them suitable for cross-port relief circuits. However, when used in such circuits, spool leakage should be considered. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. These valves are not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Additionally, back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The Sun Hydraulics RPKEKBN incorporates floating style construction to reduce the risk of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations.
