The Sun Hydraulics RPKEKBV (RPKEKBV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 reaches the valve setting, effectively throttling flow to limit pressure rise. It features a low pressure rise versus flow and provides very fast response times, typically around 2 milliseconds. The valve is suitable for use in cross port relief circuits and can accept maximum pressure at port 2; however, users should consider spool leakage in such applications. It is not recommended for load holding applications due to potential spool leakage. The RPKEKBV incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing the risk of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. With a capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min), this valve operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The factory pressure settings are established at 4 gpm (15 L/min), and the maximum valve leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is specified as 5 in\u00b3/min (80 cc/min) at 1000 psi (70 bar). Installation requires specific torque settings: valve installation torque ranges from 350 to 375 lbf ft (474 to 508 Nm), and locknut torque ranges from 80 to 90 lbf in (9 to 10 Nm). The adjustment screw has an internal hex size of ^5/32 in. (4 mm), while the locknut hex size is ^9/16 in. (15 mm). This cartridge model weighs approximately 2.50 lb (1.15 kg) and comes with a Viton seal kit option under part number: 990018006.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
