The Sun Hydraulics RPKEKNN (RPKEKNN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for pressure-limiting applications in hydraulic systems. This normally closed valve protects hydraulic components from pressure transients by opening quickly when the inlet port reaches a predetermined pressure setting, redirecting flow to the tank port to control pressure rise. It features a low-pressure rise versus flow characteristic and rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds. The valve is capable of handling maximum pressures up to 5000 psi and accommodates back pressure on the tank port, which directly influences the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Constructed with Sun's floating style design, this cartridge minimizes internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. It includes a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability in various applications. With an installation torque range of 350-375 lbf ft and an adjustment screw internal hex size of 5/32 inches, it offers ease of installation and adjustment. This model is suitable for cross-port relief circuits but should not be used in load-holding applications due to spool leakage. It has a maximum valve leakage rate of 5 in\u00b3/min at 110 SUS under specific conditions. The RPKEKNN fits into a Cavity T-18A and belongs to Series 4 with a capacity of up to 200 gpm (760 L/min). The factory pressure settings are established at 4 gpm (15 L/min), providing reliable performance for various hydraulic system requirements.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
