The Sun Hydraulics RPKELAN (RPKELAN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. These normally closed, pressure-limiting valves open rapidly but may compromise smoothness for speed. When the inlet port 1 pressure reaches the valve setting, it opens to tank port 2, throttling flow to limit pressure rise. The design ensures low pressure rise versus flow and quick response times. The RPKELAN is suitable for cross port relief circuits with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min). It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal binding risks. Note that this model is not ideal for load holding applications due to spool leakage, and back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The cartridge fits into Cavity T-18A Series 4 and has factory pressure settings established at 4 gpm (15 L/min). Installation torque ranges from 350 to 375 lbf ft (474 to 508 Nm), with adjustment available through clockwise turns of an internal hex screw. This model weighs approximately 2.50 lb (1.15 kg) and requires Viton seal kit number 990018006 for maintenance.
