The Sun Hydraulics RPKELCV (RPKELCV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens quickly to limit pressure rise by throttling flow when the inlet port pressure reaches the set point. It features low pressure rise versus flow and rapid response times, typically around 2 milliseconds. The valve is physically and functionally interchangeable with all 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, except for pilot reliefs. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of up to 200 gpm (760 L/min). The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, although it is not suitable for load holding applications due to spool leakage. Its construction minimizes internal part binding from excessive torque or machining variations. The valve accepts maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross port relief circuits with consideration for spool leakage. Installation requires specific torque settings: valve installation torque between 350 and 375 lbf-ft (474 - 508 Nm), adjustment screw internal hex size of 5/32 in (4 mm), locknut hex size of 9/16 in (15 mm), with locknut torque of 80 - 90 lbf-in (9 - 10 Nm). The adjustment mechanism allows up to five clockwise turns to increase settings, and backpressure on tank port adds directly to the valve setting at a ratio of 1:1. This model weighs approximately 2.50 lb (1.15 kg) and comes with an optional Viton seal kit (990018006).
