The Sun Hydraulics RPKELEV (RPKELEV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed valve limits pressure rise by opening to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 reaches the valve setting. It features a low pressure rise versus flow and offers rapid response capabilities. The RPKELEV is physically and functionally interchangeable with all 2-port relief cartridges except pilot reliefs, sharing the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. It accepts maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, though it is not recommended for load holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The Sun floating style construction minimizes internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge interfaces. Key specifications include a T-18A cavity, Series 4 capacity of up to 200 gpm (760 L/min), and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). Response time typically measures at around 2 ms, with maximum valve leakage at approximately 5 in\u00b3/min (80 cc/min) at specific conditions. Adjustment involves up to five clockwise turns to increase settings, with precise dimensions provided for installation and adjustment tools.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
