The Sun Hydraulics RPKELNV (RPKELNV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for hydraulic systems to protect components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve is engineered to open quickly when the inlet port pressure reaches the set threshold, thereby diverting flow to the tank port and limiting further pressure increase. It features a low pressure rise versus flow characteristic and offers rapid response times, typically around 2 milliseconds. The valve is constructed to be interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of similar frame sizes, allowing for versatile application in various hydraulic systems. The design incorporates a 150-micron stainless steel screen to protect the main stage orifice and utilizes Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this valve is suitable for cross-port relief circuits but should not be used in load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. The valve's performance includes a maximum leakage rate of 5 in\u00b3/min at 1000 psi (80 cc/min at 70 bar). Installation requires specific torque settings: valve installation torque ranges from 350 - 375 lbf ft (474 - 508 Nm), while locknut torque ranges from 80 - 90 lbf in (9 - 10 Nm). Adjustment of the valve setting can be achieved with up to five clockwise turns. Weighing approximately 2.50 lb (1.15 kg), this cartridge also offers compatibility with Viton seal kits for enhanced durability and performance in demanding environments.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
