The Sun Hydraulics RQCBCNV (RQCBCNV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. This valve activates by fully opening and maintaining an open state once the inlet port 1 pressure surpasses the set threshold, allowing for unobstructed flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that of port 2. To reset, the flow from port 1 to port 2 must stop, with pressure at port 2 equal to or greater than at port 1. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a durable 150-micron stainless steel screen. This cartridge is unsuitable for load-holding applications and is intended for use on the actuator side of systems, requiring flow cessation through the valve for resetting. If applied on the pump side, pump flow must halt for resetting. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. All two-port relief cartridges are interchangeable in both physical and functional aspects within a given frame size, featuring identical flow paths and cavities. The RQCBCNV incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge configurations. It offers a capacity of up to 12 gpm (45 L/min) with maximum operating pressures reaching 5000 psi (350 bar). Typical response time is around 25 ms with minimal leakage rates under specified conditions. Adjustment involves five clockwise turns to increase settings, with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments provided. The model weighs approximately .20 lb (0.10 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for maintenance needs.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
