The Sun Hydraulics RQCBCWN (RQCBCWN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. This valve kicks completely open and remains open once the inlet port 1 pressure exceeds its set point, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 surpasses that at port 2. To reset, flow from port 1 to port 2 must stop, and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than that at port 1. The main stage orifice is shielded by a durable 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring reliable performance. However, it is not suitable for load-holding applications and is intended for use on the actuator side of hydraulic systems. If applied on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for resetting. Notably, back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. The design features Sun\u2019s floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. This model fits into cavity T-162A and has a capacity of up to 12 gpm (45 L/min). It operates under a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with typical response times around 25 ms. Maximum leakage is minimal at approximately 30 cc/min under specified conditions. Adjustments are made via a screw with internal hex size of 5/32 inch and locknut torque between 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm). Weighing just .20 lb (0.10 kg), it incorporates Viton seals for durability in various environments but should not be used as system relief due to slower response compared to standard pilot-operated reliefs.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
