The Sun Hydraulics RQCBKAV (RQCBKAV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve kicks completely open and stays open when the inlet port 1 pressure exceeds the set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2, and it resets only when flow ceases and pressure at port 2 equals or exceeds that of port 1. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability. This cartridge is not suitable for load-holding applications but is intended for use on the actuator side of systems, where flow cessation through the valve allows resetting. If utilized on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for reset functionality. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a one-to-one ratio, offering precise control in various applications like portable grain augers in agricultural settings. The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. With a cavity size of T-162A and a series capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min), it operates effectively up to a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The response time averages around 25 ms with minimal leakage under specified conditions. The valve features adjustable settings with five clockwise turns required to increase setting, supported by specific torque requirements for both installation and adjustment components.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
