The Sun Hydraulics RQEBCAN (Material Number: RQEBCAN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. This valve opens completely when the inlet port pressure exceeds the set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. It remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 is higher than at port 2, resetting only when flow ceases and pressure equalizes between ports. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability. Not suitable for load holding applications, this valve is intended for use on the actuator side of hydraulic systems; if used on the pump side, pump flow must stop to reset the valve. Back pressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The RQEBCAN features interchangeable physical and functional characteristics with other two-port relief cartridges of the same frame size and cavity series (T-10A Series 1). It boasts a capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and can operate at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The response time is typically around 25 milliseconds with minimal leakage under specified conditions. Installation requires specific torque settings for both the valve and locknut, ensuring secure fitting without risk of internal binding due to its floating style construction. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
