The Sun Hydraulics RQEBCDN (RQEBCDN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker within a hydraulic system. This valve activates by completely opening and maintaining an open state when the inlet port pressure surpasses the preset threshold, thereby allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that at port 2. To reset, the flow between these ports must stop, and the pressure at port 2 needs to be equal to or higher than that at port 1. This component is particularly suitable for applications on the actuator side of systems because it requires cessation of flow for resetting; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for reset functionality. The main stage orifice features protection from a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability. Notably, this valve is not intended for load holding applications. The RQEBCDN model has a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi and can handle capacities up to 25 gpm (95 L/min). It incorporates Sun\u2019s floating style construction, reducing risks of internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. Additionally, back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. For corrosion resistance, options include external stainless steel components or zinc-nickel plating identified by specific model code suffixes. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
