The Sun Hydraulics RQEBCQN (RQEBCQN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. It operates by opening completely and remaining open once the inlet port 1 pressure exceeds the valve setting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. This state is maintained as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2. The valve resets when flow from port 1 to port 2 stops and pressure at port 2 equals or exceeds that at port 1. The main stage orifice features a protective 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability in various applications. However, it is not suitable for load-holding applications and should be used on the actuator side of systems since flow must cease for resetting. If used on the pump side, pump flow must be stopped for reset. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. This model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. It fits into cavity T-10A Series 1 with a capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). Its response time is typically around 25 ms, with maximum valve leakage at specified conditions being minimal. Adjustments are made through clockwise turns, with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments provided for optimal performance. The cartridge comes with corrosion-resistant options identified by specific model code suffixes for use in corrosive environments.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
