The Sun Hydraulics RQEBCWV (RQEBCWV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker within hydraulic systems. When the pressure at inlet port 1 exceeds the valve setting, it opens completely, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2. To reset, flow from port 1 to port 2 must stop, and pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that at port 1. This model is not suitable for load-holding applications and is intended for use on the actuator side of a system; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for reset. The main stage orifice includes a protective 150-micron stainless steel screen, and back pressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. Featuring Sun's floating style construction, it minimizes internal binding risks due to excessive torque or machining variations. With a cavity size of T-10A Series 1 and a capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min), this cartridge operates under maximum pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It has a typical response time of around 25 ms and maximum leakage of approximately 2 in\u00b3/min (30 cc/min) at specified conditions. The adjustment mechanism involves five full clockwise turns for increased settings with specific hex sizes for installation and adjustment screws. Weighing .30 lb (.15 kg), it comes with an optional Viton seal kit (990010006). Ideal applications include safety mechanisms like those in portable grain augers where quick release is crucial during operation interruptions.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
