The Sun Hydraulics RQEBFAN (RQEBFAN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve opens completely and remains open when the pressure at the inlet port exceeds the set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. It resets only when flow ceases and the pressure at port 2 equals or exceeds that of port 1. This model features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is not suitable for load holding applications. It is intended for use on the actuator side of systems, requiring flow cessation for reset; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted to reset. The valve setting is directly affected by back pressure on port 2 at a 1:1 ratio. All two-port relief cartridges, except pilot reliefs, are interchangeable with identical flow paths and cavity sizes for each frame size. Corrosion-resistant options are available with external stainless steel components or zinc-nickel plating, indicated by model code suffixes AP or LH, respectively. The valve's floating style construction minimizes internal binding risks due to excessive torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min), it operates at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar) with typical response times of 25 ms and minimal leakage rates under specified conditions. It features an adjustment mechanism with five clockwise turns for setting increases and specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
