The Sun Hydraulics RQEBFBV (Material Number: RQEBFBV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function like a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. It activates by fully opening and maintaining an open state once the pressure at the inlet port 1 surpasses the set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 remains higher than at port 2. To reset, flow must stop between these ports, with pressure equalizing or exceeding from port 2 to port 1. This valve features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is not suitable for load-holding applications. It should be used on the actuator side of systems since flow cessation is necessary for resetting; if applied on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for reset. Back pressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal part binding risks due to excessive torque or machining variations. The RQEBFBV has a capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and can handle maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It has a typical response time of 25 milliseconds and minimal leakage at specified conditions, ensuring efficient performance in demanding environments. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
