The Sun Hydraulics RQEBFCN (RQEBFCN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. It operates by fully opening and remaining open when the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2. To reset, the flow from port 1 to port 2 must stop, and the pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that at port 1. This cartridge is equipped with a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is not suitable for load holding applications. It's intended for use on the actuator side of systems since flow through the valve must cease for resetting; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be stopped for reset. The RQEBFCN model features corrosion-resistant construction options, identified by model code suffixes AP or LH, for use in corrosive environments. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The cartridge fits into a T-10A cavity with a Series 1 capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and can handle maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It has a typical response time of around 25 ms and minimal valve leakage under specified conditions. Adjustment involves up to five clockwise turns with specific hex sizes for screws and locknuts, ensuring precise control over settings. The product weighs approximately .30 lb (.15 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for durability in various applications.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
