The Sun Hydraulics RQEBFDN (Material Number: RQEBFDN) is a specialized kickdown relief cartridge designed to function like a circuit breaker within hydraulic systems. This valve opens fully and remains open when the inlet port 1 pressure surpasses the set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. It stays in this state as long as the pressure at port 1 is higher than at port 2. To reset, the flow between ports must stop, and pressure at port 2 should equal or exceed that at port 1. The main stage orifice features a protective 150-micron stainless steel screen. This cartridge is not suitable for load holding applications and should be used on the actuator side of systems since flow must cease for resetting. If applied on the pump side, pump flow must halt for reset. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. These cartridges are interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges, sharing similar flow paths and cavity sizes within their frame size class. The valve's construction incorporates Sun's floating style design to reduce internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. It operates under a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with typical response times of about 25 ms and minimal leakage rates at specified conditions. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
