The Sun Hydraulics RQEBFNN (RQEBFNN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve is engineered to kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the set threshold, allowing for an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that at port 2. To reset, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease, and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than that at port 1. This makes it ideal for applications on the actuator side of a system, where flow cessation allows for resetting. It is not suitable for load holding applications or use on the pump side unless pump flow can be stopped. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, and back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The cartridge incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal parts binding due to excessive torque or machining variations. With a capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), it offers robust performance with typical response times of around 25 ms. The RQEBFNN features an adjustment mechanism with five full turns clockwise needed to increase settings, and it requires specific installation torque values for optimal performance: valve installation torque ranges from 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm), while locknut torque ranges from 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). The model weighs approximately .30 lb (.15 kg) and includes a Viton seal kit option under part number 990010006.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
