The Sun Hydraulics RQEBFQN (RQEBFQN) is a kickdown relief cartridge valve designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve is engineered to open completely and maintain an open state when the inlet port pressure exceeds the valve's set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the inlet pressure surpasses the outlet pressure, and resets only when flow ceases and pressures equalize or reverse. Featuring a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, this valve is not suitable for load holding applications and is intended for actuator-side use in systems. If applied on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for resetting. The design includes a floating style construction that minimizes risks of internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The RQEBFQN model supports a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and offers a capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min). It demonstrates typical response times of 25 milliseconds with minimal leakage at specified conditions. The valve's physical specifications include a hex size of 7/8 inches (22.2 mm) and an installation torque requirement of 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm). Adjustment is facilitated by an internal hex screw, with five clockwise turns needed to increase settings, while locknut adjustments require specific torque settings. This versatile component finds application in scenarios like portable grain augers for safety mechanisms. It is built with corrosion-resistant materials suitable for harsh environments, identifiable by model code suffixes AP or LH for specific external coatings. Despite its robust capabilities, it should not be used as a primary system relief due to slower response compared to standard pilot-operated reliefs.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

  • To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
  • Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
