The Sun Hydraulics RQEBJAN (RQEBJAN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to act similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve is engineered to kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet port 1 surpasses its setting, thus creating an unobstructed flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. It remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that of port 2. To reset the valve, flow through it must cease, and the pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than at port 1. This component is not suitable for load holding applications and is best used on the actuator side of a system since flow cessation is required for resetting. If applied on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for resetting. The valve features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or cavity machining variations. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) with a typical response time of 25 ms and maximum leakage of 2 in\u00b3/min at 1000 psi (30 cc/min at 70 bar). The valve has an adjustment range that requires approximately five clockwise turns to increase its setting, with specific torque requirements for installation and adjustment components. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
