The Sun Hydraulics RQEBJAV (RQEBJAV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. When the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, it opens completely, enabling an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that at port 2 and resets only when flow ceases and pressure equalizes between ports. This cartridge features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is unsuitable for load-holding applications. It is intended for use on the actuator side of systems; if used on the pump side, the pump flow must be stopped for resetting. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The RQEBJAV incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. This model has a cavity of T-10A, Series 1 with a capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). Its response time is typically around 25 ms with minimal leakage at specified conditions. The adjustment involves five clockwise turns to increase settings, with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
