The Sun Hydraulics RQEBJEV (RQEBJEV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. When the pressure at the inlet port 1 exceeds the valve setting, the valve kicks completely open, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the inlet pressure surpasses the outlet pressure. To reset, flow must cease, and the pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that at port 1. This cartridge features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is not suitable for load-holding applications. It is intended for use on the actuator side of systems due to its reset requirements. When used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for resetting. The RQEBJEV model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding risks due to excessive torque or machining variations. It has a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min). The response time is typically around 25 milliseconds, with maximum valve leakage at specified conditions being minimal. The adjustment mechanism allows for five clockwise turns to increase settings, with specific installation and locknut torque requirements provided. This model is corrosion-resistant and can be configured with external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components for use in corrosive environments. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
