The Sun Hydraulics RQEBJWV (RQEBJWV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker within hydraulic systems. This valve automatically opens and remains open once the pressure at the inlet port exceeds the predetermined setting, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve will stay open as long as the pressure at port 1 surpasses that at port 2. To reset, flow must stop and the pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that of port 1. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a durable 150-micron stainless steel screen, enhancing its reliability in various applications. This cartridge is specifically intended for use on the actuator side of hydraulic systems because it requires cessation of flow for resetting. If used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for reset purposes. It's important to note that this valve is not suitable for load holding applications. Additionally, back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. The RQEBJWV model incorporates Sun's floating style construction, reducing potential binding issues due to installation torque or machining variations. It has a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi and can handle capacities up to 25 gpm (95 L/min). The response time is typically around 25 milliseconds, ensuring quick operation under necessary conditions. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
