The Sun Hydraulics RQEBKQV (RQEBKQV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve kicks completely open and remains open when the pressure at the inlet port 1 surpasses the set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. It stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that at port 2, and resets only when flow ceases and pressure equalizes or reverses. The main stage orifice is protected by a durable 150-micron stainless steel screen, though it is not suitable for load-holding applications. This cartridge is intended for use on the actuator side of a system, requiring flow cessation for resetting; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be stopped to reset. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly affects the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. All two-port relief cartridges are interchangeable within their frame size, having identical flow paths and cavities. Designed with corrosion resistance in mind, these cartridges are available with external stainless steel components or zinc-nickel plating options. The Sun floating style construction minimizes internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this valve features an adjustment range of up to five clockwise turns to increase settings. Installation requires specific torque values for optimal performance: valve hex size is .78 inches (22.2 mm), installation torque ranges from 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm), and locknut torque ranges from 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Ideal applications include scenarios like portable grain augers where accidental entrapment needs immediate release capabilities without triggering false trips commonly associated with standard pilot-operated reliefs.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
