The Sun Hydraulics RQEBMAV (Material Number: RQEBMAV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve kicks completely open when the pressure at the inlet port exceeds the preset valve setting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. It remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2, and resets only when flow ceases and pressure equalizes between ports. The main stage orifice is protected with a 150-micron stainless steel screen, making it unsuitable for load-holding applications but ideal for use on the actuator side of systems. If used on the pump side, pump flow must be stopped for resetting. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. This corrosion-resistant cartridge incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. It fits into cavity T-10A with a Series 1 capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and can operate at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The typical response time is around 25 ms with maximum leakage of about 2 in\u00b3/min (30 cc/min) at specified conditions. Adjustments are made via an internal hex screw with specific torque requirements for both the valve and locknut. The RQEBMAV model weighs approximately .30 lb (.15 kg) and comes with a Viton seal kit option available under part number 990010006. This product is not recommended for system relief due to potential overlap preventing false tripping but can be paired with direct-acting relief valves for additional security.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
