The Sun Hydraulics RQEBMNN (Material Number: RQEBMNN) is a kickdown relief cartridge valve designed to act similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. When the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, the valve kicks completely open, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. It remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that at port 2. To reset, flow from port 1 to port 2 must stop, and the pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that at port 1. This valve is not suitable for load-holding applications and is intended for use on the actuator side of a system since flow through the valve must cease for resetting. If used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted to reset it. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, and back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. The RQEBMNN features corrosion-resistant components identified by suffixes AP or LH in its model code, indicating external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated parts respectively. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The valve's cavity is T-10A with a Series 1 capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and can handle a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Its response time is typically around 25 ms with minimal leakage rates under specified conditions. Adjustments can be made via an internal hex screw with specific torque settings for secure installation and operation.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
