The Sun Hydraulics RQEBMNV (RQEBMNV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. When the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, it fully opens and maintains an unrestricted flow path to tank port 2, staying open as long as this pressure condition persists. To reset the valve, flow must cease and the pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that of port 1. This cartridge is equipped with a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, making it unsuitable for load-holding applications. It's intended for use on the actuator side of hydraulic systems since flow cessation is required for resetting; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be stopped for reset. The back pressure at tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. Sun's corrosion-resistant cartridges are available with external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components for use in corrosive environments. The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal part binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. This Series 1 cartridge has a capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and can operate at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It features a typical response time of 25 ms and minimal leakage under specified conditions. Adjustments can be made using an internal hex screw, with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut settings provided. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
