The Sun Hydraulics RQEBODN (RQEBODN) is a high-performance kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. When the pressure at inlet port 1 exceeds the valve setting, the valve kicks completely open, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2. To reset, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease, and pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that at port 1. This cartridge is not suitable for load-holding applications and should be used on the actuator side of systems because flow cessation through the valve is necessary for resetting. If applied on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for reset. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and has a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The response time is typically around 25 ms with a maximum leakage rate of 30 cc/min at specified conditions. The valve's design incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks due to excessive torque or machining variations. It includes corrosion-resistant options identified by model code suffixes AP or LH for external stainless steel components or zinc-nickel plating, respectively. Installation requires specific torque settings: valve installation torque between 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm), adjustment screw internal hex size of 5/32 in (4 mm), and locknut torque between 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). The cartridge weighs approximately .30 lb (.15 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for optimal performance in various environments.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
