The Sun Hydraulics RQEBOEV (RQEBOEV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. When the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, the valve kicks open and remains open, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that of port 2. To reset, flow between these ports must stop, and the pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than at port 1. This cartridge features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is not suitable for load-holding applications. It is intended for use on the actuator side of systems, as flow cessation is necessary for resetting; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be shut off for resetting. The back pressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. All two-port relief cartridges are interchangeable within a given frame size regarding flow path and cavity compatibility. The RQEBOEV model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal part binding risk due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. It operates with a maximum capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and can handle pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The response time is typically around 25 ms, with minimal leakage under specified conditions. The adjustment mechanism allows for five clockwise turns to increase settings, and installation requires specific torque values for optimal performance. This model weighs approximately .30 lb (0.15 kg) and comes with an optional Viton seal kit (990010006).

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
