The Sun Hydraulics RQGBCBN (Material Number: RQGBCBN) is a kickdown relief cartridge valve designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve activates when the pressure at the inlet port exceeds its set threshold, allowing an unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2 and remains open as long as this condition persists. To reset the valve, flow must cease and the pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that at port 1. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and is not suitable for load-holding applications. The valve is intended for use on the actuator side of systems; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be stopped for resetting. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. This corrosion-resistant cartridge employs Sun's floating style construction to minimize binding risks due to installation torque or cavity variations. It fits into a T-3A cavity, has a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min), and operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). With typical response times around 25 ms and maximum leakage rates of 3 in\u00b3/min at 1000 psi, it offers reliable performance under specified conditions. Adjustments can be made with five clockwise turns, using tools compatible with its hex sizes: valve hex size of 1-1/8 inches (28.6 mm), internal adjustment screw hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), and locknut hex size of 9/16 inches (15 mm). The cartridge weighs approximately .50 lb (.25 kg) and includes Viton seals for durability in demanding environments.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
