The Sun Hydraulics RQGBCDV (RQGBCDV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. Once the pressure at inlet port 1 exceeds the valve setting, this valve kicks completely open, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. It remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 surpasses that at port 2. To reset, flow between these ports must cease, with pressure at port 2 equal to or greater than at port 1. This cartridge is not suitable for load-holding applications and is best used on the actuator side of systems where flow cessation is feasible for resetting. For pump-side applications, pump flow must be halted for valve reset. The valve features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations. It offers corrosion-resistant options identified by model code suffixes AP or LH for external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components, respectively. With a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), it provides rapid response times typically around 25 ms. The maximum valve leakage is specified as 3 in\u00b3/min at 1000 psi (50 cc/min at 70 bar). Adjustment settings can be modified with five clockwise turns, using an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm). Installation requires a torque of 45-50 lbf-ft (61-68 Nm) with a locknut torque specification of 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm). The model weighs .50 lb (.25 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for durability in various environments.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
