The Sun Hydraulics RQGBFCN (RQGBFCN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to act similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve opens completely and remains open when the pressure at inlet port 1 exceeds its set threshold, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. It stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than that at port 2. To reset, the flow from port 1 to port 2 must stop, and the pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than that at port 1. All two-port relief cartridges, except pilot reliefs, are interchangeable with the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. The main stage orifice is protected by a stainless steel screen with a 150-micron rating. This valve is not suitable for load-holding applications and should be used on the actuator side of systems where flow cessation resets it. If applied on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for resetting. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. The RQGBFCN incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. Specifications include a maximum capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min), maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), and typical response time of 25 ms. The valve features an adjustment screw with an internal hex size of 5/32 in., locknut hex size of 9/16 in., and requires installation torque between 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm). It weighs .50 lb (0.25 kg) and uses Viton seal kit number: 990203006.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
