The Sun Hydraulics RQGBFWV (RQGBFWV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function like a circuit breaker within hydraulic systems. When the inlet port 1's pressure surpasses the valve setting, the valve kicks fully open, allowing an unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2, and remains open as long as the pressure differential is maintained. To reset, flow between ports must cease, and pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that at port 1. This model is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of similar size, sharing flow paths and cavity configurations. It features a 150-micron stainless steel screen protecting the main stage orifice but isn't suitable for load-holding applications. Instead, it's intended for actuator-side use; on pump-side applications, pump flow must stop for resetting. The valve setting is directly affected by back pressure on tank port 2 at a 1:1 ratio. Corrosion-resistant variants are available with stainless steel or zinc-nickel plating options. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal binding due to excessive torque or machining variances. Key specifications include a cavity type T-3A, Series 2 capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min), and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The typical response time is about 25 ms with minimal leakage at specified conditions. Adjustments are made by turning clockwise up to five times; hex sizes for various components range from \$5/32\$ in. for adjustment screws to \$9/16\$ in. for locknuts. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
