The Sun Hydraulics RQGBJEN (RQGBJEN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker within hydraulic systems. It activates by opening completely and maintaining an open state when the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, thus creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains engaged as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than the pressure at port 2. To reset, flow must stop between ports, and pressure at port 2 should equal or exceed that of port 1. This cartridge is physically and functionally interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges of similar frame size, except for pilot reliefs, sharing the same flow path and cavity design. The RQGBJEN features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen but is not suitable for load-holding applications. It is intended for use on the actuator side of systems since flow must cease through the valve for resetting; if used on the pump side, pump flow must halt for reset. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. This model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to excessive torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge installation. It has a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) and can operate under pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The response time is typically around 25 ms with maximum leakage at specified conditions being minimal. Adjustments can be made via an internal hex screw with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments. The cartridge weighs approximately .50 lb (0.25 kg) and uses Viton seals identified by part number 990203006.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
  • Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
